Who is Coach Andrea?

As a Dr. Sears Certified L.E.A.N. Coach, I am passionate about connecting with families who are committed to cultivating health in all aspects of their lives. I became a Dr. Sears Certified L.E.A.N. Coach in May 2010. I am certified to teach the L.E.A.N. Start, L.E.A.N. Essentials and L.E.A.N. Expectations classes as well as to offer L.E.A.N. coaching.

I am a wife and a mother of three daughters from 10 months old to 5 years old. . After graduating from Simon Fraser University in 2006, I went to work in the Professional Programs Department of the Faculty of Education. Although I have always been aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, it was only with the birth of my first child that I truly developed a passion for improving health in all aspect of my family’s life. As a parent of  two small children, I understand the barriers that time, cost and motivation can present in a family’s quest for health. I believe that the Dr. Sears L.E.A.N programs can help every family overcome these barriers and live healthier, happier lives.

What is L.E.A.N.?

L.E.A.N. stands for Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude and Nutrition. According to Dr. William Sears, these are the four essential elements of health.

Who is Dr. Sears?

Dr. William Sears is one of the world’s most well known pediatricians. He is the father of eight children ages 14 to 40 and the author of over 40 books on pregnancy, parenting and health.

Dr. Bill has been a pediatrician for over 35 years and currently practices pediatrics along with two of his three physician sons Dr. Bob and Dr. Jim in San Clemente, California. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Sears received his pediatric training at Harvard Medical School Children’s Hospital in Boston and the The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the largest children’s hospital in the world. Dr. Sears is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a fellow of the Royal College of Pediatricians.

As a pediatrician, Dr. Sears has witnessed the growing epidemic of childhood obesity and chronic disease. He has also seen a dramatic increase in children diagnosed with what he calls the D’s: attention deficit disorder (ADD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), bipolar disorder (BPD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), depression and diabetes. Dr. Sears recognized the connection between obesity, chronic disease and behavioral disorders and food. He created the L.E.A.N. program to teach healthy food choices and lifestyle habits to children. To effectively reach children, he focuses on parents.

Dr. Sears has appeared on over 100 television shows including OprahDatelineGood Morning America,Today ShowDr. Phil Show and with his son Dr. Jim Sears on the Doctors. He is also a medical and parenting consultant to Baby Talk and Parenting magazines.
